Across 152 acres of vineyards, we identified just 5.2 acres of tiny noncontiguous ribbons of volcanic earth that have eroded into the right proportions of rock, alteration, alterite and clay: rare parcels capable of offering a first-person account of the unique character of each place. These geologically and biologically complex plots give us the flavors, aromas and textures we crave.
Eola Springs
AVA: Eola-Amity Hills
Elevation: 600 ft.
Annual Production: 125 cases
Soil: shallow to medium shallow stony basalt; medium decomposition
Eola Springs is our only white wine. This Chardonnay comes from a medium fractured stony basalt in the Eola Amity AVA. This particular type of basalt provides a refreshing, elegant and long wine with a wet stone mineral sensation and wonderful texture.
Highland Close
AVA: Chehalem Mountains
Elevation: 700 ft.
Annual Production: 138 cases
Soil: very rocky and medium black and red basalt, plenty of fractures
Highland Close comes from the rugged hillside of the Chehalem Mountain AVA where aged orange basalt pierces the topsoil. The wine is shapely, with deliberate acidity and a fine grain texture that creates a soothing, long experience.
Gathered Stones
AVA: Eola-Amity
Elevation: 350 ft.
Annual Production: 137 cases
Soil: very shallow soil and a deep well fractured stony vesicular basalt, plenty of fractures
Gathered Stones comes from a small parcel in the Eola-Amity Hills AVA where we uncover crumbling vesicular basalt. Over thousands of years the exposed nature of the site has led to the erosion of the first layer of sedimentary soil, exposing the best part of the basalt for our wines.
Hopewell Hills
AVA: Eola-Amity
Elevation: 350 ft.
Annual Production: 240 cases
Soil: silty clay basalt with columnar structure and deep fracture
Hopewell Hills is a fine, muscular wine from an extraordinarily rocky vineyard in the Eola-Amity Hills AVA. Low-fractured basalt in medium-shallow soil provides a great balance between tension and pleasure.
Lafayette Heights
AVA: Dundee Hills
Elevation: 500 ft.
Annual Production: 99 cases
Soil: medium shallow fractured bedrock of basalt
Lafayette Heights comes from medium decomposed red basalt atop a crest in the Dundee Hills AVA. The Dundee Hills are known for very deep volcanic topsoil and pockets of the basalt mother rock like this are rare and difficult to find.
Riverline
AVA: Chehalem Mountains
Elevation: 700 ft.
Annual Production: 99 cases
Soil: medium shallow fractured bedrock of basalt
Riverline comes from our rockiest, highest-elevation vineyard in the Chehalem Mountains AVA. It is a Southeast facing site and is very challenging to farm. due to the shallow topsoil and the sheer quantity of rocks. The vineyard stays cool due to elevation and a constant early evening breeze.
Stonecreek
AVA: Eola-Amity Hills
Elevation: 450 ft.
Annual Production: 99 cases
Soil: fractured volcanic ash rock, plenty of vesicular basalt
Stonecreek comes from vesicular basalt in the Eola-Amity AVA. The site has a particular combination of soil, exposure and farming that have made it our most consistent wine, combining elegance and intensity with tremendous length.
